The design of the new school embodies Tennyson Middle School’s motto of “True Grit” by creating an environment that inspires commitment to student excellence, consistency in showing up, and courage to persevere through adversity.
The new Tennyson MS schematic design is based on the prototype building program and plan developed for the G.W. Carver Middle School project, and will serve a functional building capacity population of 1,060 students. Through the collaboration between school staff, Waco ISD, and the design team led by O’Connell Robertson, the new plan for Tennyson MS will reflect the same 21st century educational goals and design principles as Carver Middle School, while implementing some key shifts to best fit the unique Tennyson site. The new facility is an adaptable learning environment comprised of the following spaces: academic grade-level neighborhoods collaborative small group work and social areas centralized library comprehensive indoor and outdoor athletics facilities performing and fine arts wing centralized dining commons with outdoor courtyard access.
